Then, He asks those who are paying attention to his words to ponder the lilies, specifically how they mature. In verse 28, Jesus persists with His questions, asking why people are concerned about what they wear. Here, He asks if anyone can increase the number of hours that they have on earth by worrying. In verse 27, Christ poses a third rhetorical question. As if setting up a poetic rhythm, Christ poses a second rhetorical question to close out this verse: Do humans not have more value than the birds? Unlike humans, they do not store up their food in barns nor do “they neither sow nor reap.” Regardless, Our Heavenly Father continues to see that these animals are continually fed. In verse 26, He uses the birds as an example. He closes the verse with a rhetorical question asking whether or not there is more to life than just food and more to the body than its clothing. ![]() He lists five specific things that we should not worry about, namely our lives, what we will eat, what we will drink, about our bodies, and what we will clothe ourselves in. Starting with verse 25, Christ opens up with instructions against worrying.
